Grootbos Foundation
The Grootbos Foundation is Grootbos Private Nature Reserve’s a non-profit organisation that runs various social upliftment and educational programs like Green Futures, Siyakhula and the Grootbos Football Foundation.
Green Futures is a Horticulture and Life Skills College which provides educational training to a small group of young adults each year. The project aims to help these individuals learn the skills and confidence necessary to help them find employment while contributing to the conservation of the region’s unique biodiversity.
The Siyakhula (meaning Growin the Future) Organic Farm provides skills development in organic agriculture, sustainable animal husbandry and beekeeping to members of the local community. The Farm produces a range of vegetable, herbs, fruits, eggs and honey which is sold to the Grootbos Lodges. Siyakhula also ruins projects like Food For Sport, a Candle Making Enterprise and a Water Bottling Project.
The Football Foundation of South Africa (FFSA) was established with the aim of encouraging social integration amongst communities in the Gansbaai area as well as educating and empowering the local youth through means of sports. The Foundation provides the education, facilities and equipment to do so while also being involved with associated projects like Food For Sport, a Canoeing Programme and Water Safety Programme.
Marine Dynamics is one of the leading Shark Cage Diving companies based in Kleinbaai, Gansbaai. This multi-awarded Ecotourism and Conservation Enterprise works in conjunction with its sister companies, Dyer Island Conservation Trust (DICT) and African Penguin and Seabird Sanctuary (APSS), to educate and continue the conservation of the marine species along our coasts. The Long Run is an initiative of the Zeitz Foundation which develops and implements best practice examples of the 4 C’s - Conservation, Community, Culture, Commerce. As a member of The Long Run Initiative, we are committed to promoting and supporting sustainable, ecological and socially responsible practices to build a more sustainable future.

FTT approval ensures sustainable practices like good wages and working conditions for staff, upliftment of local communities and a deep respect for human rights, culture and the environment.

The Dyer Island Conservation Trust provides unique conservation and research programmes or marine species in the greater Gansbaai area. The Trust strives to help protect the nearby colony of endangered African Penguins, the breeding and calving grounds of the Southern Right Whale and the population of vulnerable Great White Sharks found here.
The African Penguin & Seabird Sanctuary (APSS) is a project of the Dyer Island Conservation Trust (DICT). The Sanctuary is a state of the art facility that was established to assist the endangered African Penguin colony on Dyer Island as well as any injured birds found nearby. The facility has a fully equipped lab and vet on standby to treat and rehabilitate a variety of seabirds.
